Hello MTL
We used real henna! It always helps to require parental permission (slips) letting families know the stain may last for up to 3 weeks! Thanks for your vote of confidence! I am in total agreement with you about the serious needs for children to learn (early) that there are many ways to be in the world. Cheers,
Mary

I'm a retired teacher who recognized the"henna-ed hands" from the years I taught in the Middle East -- Community School in Tehran, Iran 1958-'61, and Beirut College for Women, now Lebanese American University (1967-73). My husband used to have his 8th graders in iran fill the blackboard with as many ways to say thank you, or recognize a holiday, that the students knew from their multi-lingual lives. Anything that lets students experience another culture and motivates them to travel when they are grown up enough to do so will make this world a better place! My granddaughter loves to do art work. Did your students use the 3-D liquid markers for the henna designs on their hands? MTL (www.madlonlaster.com)

Try this incredibly simple but quite useful analogy to reach students who are struggling with issues of audience and style. Soon they’ll be speaking to, and not at, their audience.

Lynette, I've also been to a lecture given by Mrs. Jago and have to agree whole heartedly with your assessment of her work. She is one of several whose message helps keep me renewed as an educator.
