Write your life with your students... we know it makes a difference. I hope you'll join a discussion of what you're trying in your classroom and how it helps students see a path towards their own writing. I'm learning beside my 12th graders. Join me!

MIT university is trying to build a free resource to help kids learn SAT/ACT thru the power of user-generated images and video. We are currently running a nationwide contest, challenging kids to make fun and memorable flashcards by pairing sentences and images to a common test word. There will be a small cash prize and iTunes giveaways. Due date is May 22.
Thank you for the ways you inspire my English teacher hopefuls with your book, Write Beside Them. As they formulate their writing pedagogy ethos, your examples give them hope that they can beat the system. They especially are empowered with the idea that they are indeed passionate writers and how that is a key to success as a writing teacher.

Yes! I totally agree with your observation:"It is hard to do that on-the-spot writing in front of the class, but as I talked aloud about my thinking as I wrote, I could see the lights going on for several who didn't know how to start their own scenes. I know my teaching is more explicit when I'm modeling how I get the writing done myself."
When a teacher writes with students, powerful things happen in that classroom...I call it Everything Education! I would love to join your group...May I? Kären M.
