Writing and learning with struggling students

(I posted this at the English Companion Ning and decided to repost it here)

This year, as part of a writing center I'm developing at school, I've worked with struggling students, some of whom are cognitively impaired. Almost none of my experience, education or training has been about helping such students. At 47, I'm a newbie at something.

The best social learning and Web 2.0 resource I've found

Somehow, some way as I was cruising around the Internet, I found the work of Jane Hart at Centre for Learning and Performance Technologies. http://www.c4lpt.co.uk/ Yes, I was excited; yes I was impressed with the extensive Web 2.0 tools available to me there.

Hi Nancy

MIT university is trying to build a free resource to help kids learn SAT/ACT thru the power of user-generated images and video. We are currently running a nationwide contest, challenging kids to make fun and memorable flashcards by pairing sentences and images to a common test word. There will be a small cash prize and iTunes giveaways. Due date is May 22.

More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules. Do you have students or colleagues who would be interested?
