SO Many people to meet...

San Anotnio was beautiful in so many ways...

I'm so sorry that I didn't get a chance to meet everyone I inteded to meet (Dana and Lauren!!! we just missed each other but i do hope to stay in touch.)
for those of you I met accidentally or fatefully - I'm grateful. I'd like to stay connected rather than let too much time pass then maybe see you or talk again at the next convention. Is there a way to make that happen? to stay connected?

Michelle

Michelle ~ Last year you wrote, but I was unable to attend the conference. Are you going this year?

Everywhere, kiddo! It's going to be a great convention. We've been working hard getting the volunteers in line and Carol Jago has a great program in place. Somewhere in there, I have no doubt we'll find time for some fun! Hope you can make it.

Hi Michelle. Good to hear from you. You ask interesting questions. It's tough for us to be able to measure the effectiveness of the videos and flashcards, though we've received positive reviews from most students and teachers. Beyond SAT vocab learning, however, the benefits of Brainyflix are 1. it helps integrate technology into the classroom 2. especially in the case of the videos, gets kids to learn to work collaboratively and 3. puts kids efforts towards creating something positive that can help others. To boot, a nice unexpected outcome was that many kids who've participated have found a passion for performing on camera or working behind it. So I guess overall, so far, so good. Just trying to make it bigger and better...

Well, to start with, this fall I have this little NCTE thing! Plus, I'm teaching two classes at Slippery Rock. Beyond that, no doubt a life of excitement and innovation! What's up on your end? Any suggestions to broaden my horizons?

Hi Michelle,

MIT university is trying to build a free resource to help kids learn SAT/ACT thru the power of user-generated images and video. We are currently running a nationwide contest, challenging kids to make fun and memorable flashcards by pairing sentences and images to a common test word. There will be a small cash prize and iTunes giveaways. Due date is May 22.

More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules. Do you have students or colleagues who would be interested?

How is it that one man can provoke such a profound change in our minds and hearts? The challenges ahead of him are huge and can't be cured with a simple oath of office. However, I suppose that's the English teacher part of us: knowing that words can move us to action and accomplishment. May he continue to inspire us to transcend the difficult times ahead... Yes, we can!

That's a hoot! When I read that note, I started cracking up because I thought "Whoa!" But I got the intent! BTW, Love the picture of the girls with Obama! Yes, we can!!

OK - this is wierd... I was just thinking about you the other day! Vibes, I guess! We're gearing up for spring meetings for NCTE convention planning right now. We're also getting ready to launch a new website and I'm putting a newsletter together. It's always something! Want to get involved in all the fun? If you do, let me know how much time you want to devote and I'll suck you right in!

Hi, Michelle.

Your pictures convey your sensibility, I think. I would like to meet you. Maybe we should set a coffee time? On Friday? Here's my cell; don't feel you need to post yours here. Mine is: 973 699-2740.

Sorry for not responding to your comment about opening documents. I"ve been back and forth with deciding what to post online. I had documents up; then I took them down. I can explain when I see you!!

Cute girls! I'm a "boy mother" (two boys), but a "girl aunt"!

Have a great week. See you in Texas!

Dana
