Hi Laurie,

MIT university is trying to build a free resource to help kids learn SAT/ACT thru the power of user-generated images and video. We are currently running a nationwide contest, challenging kids to make fun and memorable flashcards by pairing sentences and images to a common test word. There will be a small cash prize and iTunes giveaways. Due date is May 22.

More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules. Do you have students or colleagues who would be interested?

Thanks, Laurie. I appreciate your note. I managed to prove a few weeks ago that I actually can't walk and chew gum at the same time--or more accurately walk down our hardwood stairs and talk on a cell phone at the same time! I slipped and fell down the last several steps and did some damage to my 7th vertebrate (right where your neck hits your shoulders). I'm in physical therapy trying to get that vertebrate back in alignment so to avoid surgery! I'm feeling ok, not great, but have promised my doctors to stay put for a while to be a good patient--something I'm discovering I'm not very good at!

I will most certainly be speaking in Philly. I'll do a special workshop on Thursday, give the President's Address on Sunday, and on Sunday afternoon do a special workshop with Linda Rief and Bob Probst (we've done this for about 5 years--it's our time to relax and share what we've been thinking about for the past year). While I'm thrilled to be giving the President's Address, I love what Linda, Bob and I do on Sunday afternoon.

If you're looking for some deeper learning, come to one of the institutes I'm running this summer. Find information at www.heinemann.com and follow links to workshops.

Again, thanks for your nice note. Hope to see you in Philly!

Kylene
