Today I was in Bessemer, Michigan, observing one of my student teachers. Lots of writing happened there:students took notes on background information before they started reading Oedipus Rex; they also wrote in their reader's notebooks and journals...
I really appreciate your sharing this, Kia. I'm friends with Pat, so I can advocate on your behalf if you decide you want to pursue her as an option if you'd like. Just let me know. You might share the Twitter feed I'm doing with my methods class with your EN 200 students -- the focus of which is language:). Language_Today: http://twitter.com/Language_Today. Take care! Carl
Thanks, Kia Jane. I'd also love to see your teaching of grammar syllabus. We don't have a course like that here at NC State, but I do some of this in the methods course. Cheers to you on your recent election to office as President of MCTE! Two great authors. Don't know if you're looking for another author or a teacher educator, but Pat Mora is a wonderful poet and author who speaks poignantly about writing. Don't know what she charges. I've done some talks on 21st century writing/composing... not sure if this fits what you're looking for. Will keep thinking... Best, Carl
Kia, It was great to see you in Elmhurst, although the time seemed too short. Thanks for letting me know that one of your students found my "Conversation as Curriculum" article helpful. It is one of the pieces I've written that I like the most. I'd love to read her paper if she is willing to share--if so, she is welcome to send via e-mail.
Hope your semester is off to a good start. Tiger by the tail here!
Greetings, my long lost tini-tipper! 08 WCTE conference was a great success--especially our wine/chocolate 50th anniversary gala the night before! Wish you could have been there. REALLY worried about our 09 fall conference though--it's in an expensive Downtown Milwaukee hotel and may bankrupt us! How was San Antonio? What you doing this summer? If you get to the Milwaukee area, I'd just LOVE having a houseguest!!! Except the last week of July/first of Aug--we'll be in Hawaii and you'd have the house and dogs to yourself!
Hello from a NMU Alumni! I will also be attending the conference. I did not have you as a professor while I was a student, but I remember meeting you. I worked in the School of Education from 2000 to 2003 as a student secretary and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education/Language Arts! I work for Ironwood Area Schools now. I hope to run into you at the conference!
Thanks, Kia. We were gone all weekend for some R&R, and it is good to hear from you. I hope that the NCTE webinar works out for us -- it is a new experience, for sure.
Take care and see you in November, if not before at MCTE.
Just had to harrass you a little given that you've been one of those trying diligently to drag me to the 21st century. I, too, now am on Facebook, courtesy of students who just up and put me there. They came in to class, logged on to the page they'd created for me, and promptly sat me down for a tutorial. Ohhh-- they were SO pleased with themselves. :)

Has anyone been able to track down these materials? I loved the presentation, but the presenters ran out of handouts. I signed up for the email list, but haven't heard anything yet.
Just wondering if anyone saw materials on here?
Thank you so much for posting this, Michael. I was unable to attend your session but really enjoyed reading through your presentation. Can't tell you how much I agree with you about how knowing that a story is told in first or third person tells y...
