American Idol Language Arts

This session is an example of how to use Pop Culture to draw students to your side as together you explore reading and writing using a popular television program as a reference point. Country Music Diva is one way to examine summary from the standpoint of beginning, middle, end and problem/solution. Join Dottie Hall and me (Kaye Price-Hawkins) Sunday at 8:30 to see how this works and what other connections we can make. If you would like to contact me for additional information, please feel free to access my website: www.pricelessliteracy.homestead.com. Thank you!

Hi Kaye,

MIT university is trying to build a free resource to help kids learn SAT/ACT thru the power of user-generated images and video. We are currently running a nationwide contest, challenging kids to make fun and memorable flashcards by pairing sentences and images to a common test word. There will be a small cash prize and iTunes giveaways. Due date is May 22.

More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules. Do you have students or colleagues who would be interested?

Hello Kaye! I hope you are doing well. I am on the NING searching for resources for a short break out session on 21st Century Skills in the English classroom. There are so many wonderful ideas here. I plan to highlight the NING in my session, so more teachers in Region 16 will know about it.
