Wow, Les than 4 months from today... and we will be working in Philadelphia!

As President of PCTELA, we are so excited to be the local affiliate hosting NCTE's 2009 Convention. Behind the scenes so much is occurring to make certain you attendees have a stellar convention! So enjoy your summer, but DO mark your calendar and make those reservations! We will be waiting, just steps from the Liberty Bell!

what wonderful sessions so far!

I am so impressed with the sessions I have attended so far. Thanks so much all you who stepped forward to do proposals. BTW - it won't belong until those calls for proposals go out for '09. Hopefully this convention will give you the stimulus to shift from program attendee to sharing the awesome things doing in your own classroom. Perhaps you and a colleague are now ready to submit a proposal and you can help tell your stories. Jot a note in your electronic calendar.

totally enjoying this ning! Thanks NCTE!

first kudos on the revamped site - it looks wonderful! I was involved with staff development yesterday and showed it off a bit to a few colleagues. I then shared how useful the ning has been to continue to excite me about sessions for the convention, make new contacts, reconnect with colleagues across the country. I have also found out about some educators that I want to seek out and meet at the convention simply from their postings, and their profile page! We have also located many of our activ… Continue

discussion about technology in our lives... and this great readwritethink.org assignment...

Some of us on a list serve were reminising about how we came to be the technology users we are currently. I was browsing on readwritethink and see this wonderful lesson for middle schoolers. My spouse , the engineer, had to have a personal computer early on --- and then an Atari for the kids... now the two of us have our individual machines but at one time we had 6 computers in our home. Wondering if that Atari has any valu… Continue

worth the time to watch - Clay Shirky video at Web 2.0 conference

Web 2.0, Gilligan, and One Percent of Your Time
I recently ran across this video http://www.warrenellis.com/?p=5885
from the April 2008 O'Reiley Web 2.0 conference. I think this talk captures the revolution in collaborative communication better than I could. I strongly urge you to take 10 minutes and watch it.

fits in with NCTE's discussions of 21st century learning.

Hi Jan,

MIT university is trying to build a free resource to help kids learn SAT/ACT thru the power of user-generated images and video. We are currently running a nationwide contest, challenging kids to make fun and memorable flashcards by pairing sentences and images to a common test word. There will be a small cash prize and iTunes giveaways. Due date is May 22.

More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules. Do you have students or colleagues who would be interested?
