Hi Helen,

MIT university is trying to build a free resource to help kids learn SAT/ACT thru the power of user-generated images and video. We are currently running a nationwide contest, challenging kids to make fun and memorable flashcards by pairing sentences and images to a common test word. There will be a small cash prize and iTunes giveaways. Due date is May 22.

More details at brainyflix.com/main/contest_rules. Do you have students or colleagues who would be interested?

Helen,

Thanks for your very kind note. I'm glad you made it to the Convention and obviously (from your photos!) enjoyed some of my favorite folks! I left the Convention a little bit tired and at the same time a lot energized. Not sure how those two exist side by side, but they do! The exhaustion (ok, I was more than a little tired!) came from worrying about all the details; but the excitement and energy came from all the great teachers, all the amazing sessions, and all the ideas that buzzed through the Convention Center. I love this shift!

Again, thanks for taking the time to write.

My best,
Kylene

Nice meeting you too, Helen. Remember that if you and your students are interested, they should join youthvoices.net and start posting. And, I'll look forward to your presentation on international education next year at NCTE!

It was great putting our heads together in San Antonio, Helen. Think about putting in a proposal to present in Philadelphia.

Great pictures!

Thanks very much for the comments. We enjoyed doing that workshop, and I'm looking forward to seeing you again in San Antonio. I'll be there the whole week, so we'll run into one another at some point. Take care.

Helen,
Good to find you here. Love your photo! You look very much like yourself. It was a pleasure seeing you in Orlando at the FCTE conference and catching up on everything worth catching up on. My best wishes to you, now and always.

So far there has been no response from NCTE in any form since the postings on the website of the Washington Post. The bottom line remains: NCTE has approved of a plan that calls for (1) Explicit, systematic teaching of literacy as the only path. (...
