Clarice, I am glad you liked the session. I hope to have all the lesson plans and materials put together in a packet and posted to the Ning by Tuesday. Please let us know how it goes and share any tips you have for using poetry to engage students.

Thanks Jenna, Folks if you click on the link also read the post "Reading with Mouse in Hand." I think the phrase really captures how literacy has shifted. The post does an awesome job describing how intertwined reading and writing have become.

Reflections on my first remote conference

Overall this has been a great conference for me even though I am not in attendance. I do miss the friendships and the riverwalk but I surely didn't miss out on any opportunities to learn. I was able to e-present and e-attend sessions.

First presenting remotely worked well. While my colleagues lead a hands on discussion about using video authorship to promote learning I sat in the chat room answering questions. There wasn't too much audience participation, mainly because many had yet to sign up… Continue

The Internet as a Tool for Learning

It is amazing how fast things are shifting. I guess what they say is true. No technology for literacy and learning has spread farther and quicker in history than the Internet. I can see that clearly with this Ning.

I am about to participate in my first remote presentation. My colleagues and I are discussing the use of video in the ELA classroom. I will be online in the chatroom answering questions and comments while they present. A remote discussant if it you will.

For awhile with gas prices s… Continue

Hi, Greg,
I was at a professional development piece you did on media literacy in Westport, CT last spring. I am so happy to find you here on this NING. I am no longer filling a position of teaching English - integrating technology into the curriculum, instead, but "once an English teacher, always an English teacher." I look forward to more of your findings on helping kids to effectively search for good resources for their projects. I recently heard Howare DiBlasi's webinar on "Teaching Brock to Search", and it was very good.

Congrats! I'm sure you have your hands full right now, but that is awesome news!
And yes, I was kind of amazed by how the GNs are everywhere now! :)
I will definitely be at NRC. I'll see you there!

Thanks, Greg! I was glad to get it in, too! What are you up to? Did you make it to S.A. this year?

Try this incredibly simple but quite useful analogy to reach students who are struggling with issues of audience and style. Soon they’ll be speaking to, and not at, their audience.
