My thoughts are with you and your boys at this difficult time. Of course you're more needed at home this year than at the Convention, though you will be missed. Let's make sure you stay connected to the Convention happenings with the Ning site and with Twitter updates. I hope we'll have some live streaming of some of the sessions--you'll have to log in to those.
But for now, you take care of yourself. After I get Baker situated at the University of Pennsylvania, how about finding a day to go to lunch?
MIT university is trying to build a free resource to help kids learn SAT/ACT thru the power of user-generated images and video. We are currently running a nationwide contest, challenging kids to make fun and memorable flashcards by pairing sentences and images to a common test word. There will be a small cash prize and iTunes giveaways. Due date is May 22.
I owe you more than one drink...I don't think Lyn did tell the hotel...I will take care of it when I get there..I'd love one for display at the booth..you've thought of everything...You get my vote! :) (although I kinda wanted a cheesy campaign flyer or two!)...
This topic is one I am vitally interested in -- how teachers make the transition from traditional (web1.0) teachers to laptop classroom or web2.0 teachers.
Yes, but I am not certain how to do it! BTW, do you know EVERYONE? :) Can't wait to see you at CEL. And, thanks for all of YOUR hard work! You can't begin to know how much you have helped me with this conference.

Thanks for the note Diane - I'll hope to see you next week!
Diane:
Thanks for the note. This is the first CEL that I've missed in more than 20 years. However, grandchildren come first now and that weekend is their Christening (they'll be five months and 12 months old). I look forward to next year's CEL. Best of luck with your campaign. I know -- you can't campaign, but you can shake hands, buy drinks, tell jokes, and be your normal, engaging self. All the best, Rick Chambers
I'm finally making it back to a computer in an office full of light and air conditioning. Our home fared well, structurally, but we are now on our tenth day without power. Most of last week was relatively cool, low humidity, and low on mosquitoes. The past three days have been a much different story. I can work a generator and a BBQ pit with ease now! We have had water and gas the entire time, though, so I consider us very, very lucky. My family loved Galveston--it was always a vacation just minutes away--and I can't bear to think of what has happened to that special island. Region 4 just opened today, and the boys don't return to school until tomorrow at the earliest. There are still so many problems with traffic light and other power outages along with boil mandates for water. The tales Houstonians will be able to tell...
Try this incredibly simple but quite useful analogy to reach students who are struggling with issues of audience and style. Soon they’ll be speaking to, and not at, their audience.
Lynette, I've also been to a lecture given by Mrs. Jago and have to agree whole heartedly with your assessment of her work. She is one of several whose message helps keep me renewed as an educator.
