Greetings English Educators!

I'm writing to follow up on my November post about nominating top NCTE CEE presentations demonstrating innovative uses and integration of newer literacies and emerging technologies in teacher education for the CEE National Technology Leadership Award. This year's award is actually being sponsored by the Society for Information Techology's (SITE) English Education SIG rather than CEE, and as Chair of the SIG, I… Continue

Language_Today Twitter Page

My methods students and I have started a Twitter feed entitled Language_Today (note the underscore if you're searching Twitter). Our intent is to create an ongoing effort to seek out, make observations about, and highlight contemporary examples of the intersection of language, literacy, and culture in action in global media. We hope to shed light on the power language has that is often taken for granted in contemporary society. Hope… Continue

Carll, Thanks - I have tentatively booked someone else, but thanks for offering to touch base with Pat if things change.

I looked at your Twitter Feed but don't really know what it is that you were doing with it. Can you tell me when you get a chance?

P.S. One of my favorite sites for talking about writing with participial phrases:

syllabus for EN 200 fall 2009.docxThanks, Carl. Still making decisions about speakers for 2010 conference -- will look into Mora as a possibility. Here's a copy of my EN 200 -English Grammar and Usage for Teachers - syllabus(undergrad, 2 credits) . I'm still fine-tuning things, but it's lots of fun. :) Talk to you soon! Kia Jane

No sweat, Carl. I'll check with her about sharing her piece and get back to you. Yep, we started this past week - I'm teaching 2 sections of Teaching of Writing and 1 section of Teaching of Grammar, along with supervising 6 student teachers. The student teachers don't start until Sept. 8th, so I'm not full-force yet, but will be soon. I'm also the new president-elect of MCTE, so I'm planning to run the 2010 conference in Lansing. I've lined up Pam Munoz Ryan and Debbie Reese to speak (so far). Any suggestions for a great, enthusiastic speaker on writing (my budget is way too small for any big names)? Let me know if anything comes to mind.
Best wishes as you start your school year! Kia Jane

One of my students is using your article, "Conversation as Curriculum: Learning to Teach English in Rural America" in her research on YA lit and social class. Thought you'd like to know. :)

Will we see you in Elmhurst next week at CEE conference?

Take care,
Kia Jane

Hey, Carl,
Good to see you here, and I would enjoy getting together with you in San Antonio in November over a grande decaf no-whip double-shot user-friendly skinny mocha latte and catching up on everything worth catching up on. You are the best... My best wishes to you, now and always.
