MIT university is trying to build a free resource to help kids learn SAT/ACT thru the power of user-generated images and video. We are currently running a nationwide contest, challenging kids to make fun and memorable flashcards by pairing sentences and images to a common test word. There will be a small cash prize and iTunes giveaways. Due date is May 22.
Congratulations on your nomination for FCTE Teacher of the Year. I look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Hi Abigail! Dr. Golub sent me to you to see what you're doing with iPods in the classroom. I'm going to poke around a little here and see what you're up to. I'm working on using the iPod touch in the classroom. If you have time, please check out my page here and let me know if you have any thoughts. I'd really appreciate your insight.
Abby,
Now I'm sending someone to YOU! You should expect to hear from Tami Moskal, another Listmate who is also here on this website. Visit Tami's web page here; read her blog posts and learn about her own particular interests regarding the instructional uses of iPods. You should hear from Tami shortly; but if she doesn't write you within the next 7 minutes, then you write her on her page and say, "Let's talk." Make something happen here, Abby. I think Tami may be on to something. Find out what it is.

Smart, smart work, Abby. Are you free to talk sometime?
Abby,
I just watched the video you posted here and was stunned by the brilliance of your innovative, engaging instructional approach using "Star Wars" equipment. I have always said that the best teachers -- the 'master teachers' -- get themselves out in front and find ways to do things that haven't even been invented yet. You are one of those teachers. Now, let's get you moving even faster and farther: go to Sara Kajder's page here. She is perhaps our discipline's most expert and knowledgeable teacher with technology, and you have much to learn from her. So...go to her page here; write her a note introducing yourself and inviting her to view your video; tell her I sent you (very important, so that she will take you seriously); then let's see what happens. You want this connection. Sara can blast you into cyberspace, and that's where you belong. Trust me on this one.
"The existing standardized tests are so incredibly bogus that it is the height of impropriety for NCTE and other so-called professional organizations to pretend that tests exist "to identify learning needs, inform instruction, and monitor student ...
So far there has been no response from NCTE in any form since the postings on the website of the Washington Post. The bottom line remains:
NCTE has approved of a plan that calls for
(1) Explicit, systematic teaching of literacy as the only path.

Approximately 8 million students in grades 4-12 are reading below grade level. Limited literacy skills cause 3,000 students to drop out of high school every day.
