I would like to become a member of Reading Strategy Central, as I am always interested in new strategies that will engage our students so they can become active readers/learners.

Amsco School Publications just came out with a new adolescent literacy series that is chock-full of helpful, engaging reading strategy lessons. The series is called Strategy Central for the Active Reader and there are three volumes--Literature, Nonfiction, and Information. Each book contains high-interest readings and 22 key reading strategies, taught using a before-, during-, and after-reading structure. For a sample copy, e-mail me, Lauren Davis, at lambrose@amscopub.com.

My 8th graders just did their first "Sketch to Stretch" and practiced making a conclusion about what they read. Let's just say they need a LOT of practice on this one.

Lynette, I've also been to a lecture given by Mrs. Jago and have to agree whole heartedly with your assessment of her work. She is one of several whose message helps keep me renewed as an educator.
