Session Title: The Role of Language and Literacy in Teaching for Social Justice
Presenters in this session investigate ways in which language and literacy practices have been used to enact socially conscious pedagogy in a variety of contexts. They will discuss what classroom talk about race 'testimonial literacies,' and the cross-cultural exchange of multimodal stories reveal about how students and teachers can become agents of social change.

Is anyone giving a presentation on a topic related to ESL-bilingual education at Pittsburgh? In the past the ESL Assembly has sent out a short newsletter with a list of relevant presentations. I thought that this year we could post our own announcements with the program information: brief abstract, title, time/date, and location. Thanks! I'll start with my presentation. I look forward to hearing about yours and meeting you in Pittsburgh!

Please come to the ESL Assembly session at NCTE. We are a very small group, so there are lots of opportunities for leadership and involvement. We are especially looking for ideas on how to reach out to mainstream NCTE members who want to learn more about working with the ESL students in their classes.
Everyone is welcome!
