We had a wonderful conference November 22-24 in Philadelphia with over 150 attending and over fifty presentations! Your cooperation in this novel format helped to make the single presentations, the paired presentations and the round tables a success.

Please extend the experience by uploading your handouts and links to supplementary resources, as well as you a link to your own professional website. We want to continue the conversations throughout the year.
See the START Discussion above. Include your session letter, number and title in the discussion title so viewers can search and find you easily.

Questions? E-mail me at ajroseboro@gmail.com

Thanks so much for all you did to make the conference so professionally and personally enriching.

Of the many proposals submitted for this conference 44 came from those new to CEL! We're excited about the opportunity to hear from so many new voices at our conference this November in Philadelphia, following our NCTE Annual Convention.

Thanks to each of you who submitted proposals yourself and to those who encouraged friends and colleagues to participate in this way as we explore our theme “Building Leadership in a Diverse Society.”

Invitations to present have been sent and we should have a full program to announce very soon.

Meanwhile, we invite you to check out the CEL Conference web pages where we're posting regular updates with program previews of the speakers and workshops already confirmed.

Glad to see all who have joined so far. Please share the NING with your friends and begin talking about the value you experience as members of CEL and attendees at the conferences.

Seeing Louann Reid's picture here reminds me of my first CEL conference. She was Chair of CEL, then. I so admired her poise from the podium and her passion for teacher leaders. You can imagine how delighted I was to join the celebration last year in San Antonio when Louann was the recipient of our coveted Exemplary Leadership Award.

What is one of your fond memories of a CEL conference? Who will you invite to join you at our 2009 conference in Philadelphia to help us celebrate Carolyn Phipps, our ELA recipient this year?

So far there has been no response from NCTE in any form since the postings on the website of the Washington Post. The bottom line remains: NCTE has approved of a plan that calls for (1) Explicit, systematic teaching of literacy as the only path. (...
