NCTE Ning

Adolescents are actively involved in podcasting and video blogging.

The presenters in this session will discuss the skills involved in these modes of communication, and give participants the opportunity to get their hands on computers, work collaboratively, and gain the skills and abilities so they can become involved too.

We're attaching a lot of materials here...most likely things will change as we approach the presentation. We'll get the most up to date versions up here ASAP. The videos embedded in the powerpoint are all uploaded here as well.

Enjoy!!!

Hey...thanks for letting me know about this.

I'm gonna play around with NING to see if I can upload the flash file here. I also checked the link again to see if it works and others say it is. Make sure you're pushing the big play button in the middle.

Hope to see you in San Anotonio!

I added three of the videos we'll be using for the YouRTube presentation to the video section on the NING. I tagged them all with "YouRTube".

The three movies were made by students at Staples High in Westport, CT. Their movie "company" is called RubyDog Films. I've had the opportunity to work with a ton of great teachers in Westport through various talks and PD sessions. These movies were created by the students to create a buzz around the Book Fair that the English Department was promoting.

These sorts of great videos can happen in your classroom. You have to start somewhere...

I'm attaching a handout that I put together last year for NCTE in NYC. I think it'll help.

As I'm wrapping things up and preparing to leave for San Antonio...this pops up on Waxy.org.

A great example of a video Mash-up. Taking two forms of interests and blending them seamlessly...and creatively together. I think we'll be watching a version of this in the near future as a TV commercial. It'll be sponsored by Nike or Nickelodeon.

Another form of a video Mash-up...actually the model we're using in the presentation. All clips taken from YouTube clips of Hamlet.

The video we'll have everyone respond to during the presentation...

To expand on this discussion, here is a somewhat recent article in the NYT that discusses one of the last Pew studies...the rise of the supercommunicators!!!

Hey there,

How does one successfully download clips from youtube to use in a classroom (my school blocks streaming media). How would I download a youtube clip onto a powerpoint presentation, say?
