NCTE Ning

From President Carol Jago

Linda Pastan has written:

"Finding a new poet

is like finding a new wildflower
out in the woods. You don't see

its name in the flower books, and
nobody you tell believes
in its odd color or the way

its leaves grow in splayed rows

down the whole length of the page."

Here's another poet for our African American Read-In that I just found at the Poetry Foundation web site. His name is Kevin Young http://www.poetryfoundation.org/archive/poet.html?id=7623. What a gift for language!

2009 Presidential Address

NCTE Past President Kylene Beers presented the 2009 Presidential Address at the Annual Convention in Philadelphia. Click here to read the text of her presentation, "Sailing over the Edge: Navigating the Uncharted Waters of a World Gone Flat."
